Monthly Calling & Texting “Unlimited Plans” are now LIVE!

Posted by Tristan Barnum on Oct 29, 2009

Today we announced our monthly subscription “Unlimited Plans” for calling and texting in the U.S./Canada and worldwide. The plans are super inexpensive. In fact, the introductory rate for our domestic calling plan is the lowest in the industry – 15 percent less than Skype’s!

Until today, Voxox users have been able to load up credit on a “pay as you go” basis, but have never been able to buy a monthly plan.

The plans we announced today enable any Voxox user to simply pay a flat monthly fee and have “unlimited” outbound calling, texting and faxing. (Note: there is a cap of 3,000 minutes on “unlimited” plans according to Voxox’s fair-use policy to prevent fraudsters from taking advantage).

So, without further ado, here are the plans…

U.S. & Canada Unlimited Calling Plan

$2.45/month – the lowest in the industry to our knowledge

Includes: Unlimited* calling to landlines and mobile phones within the U.S. and Canada

Worldwide Unlimited Calling Plan

$12.95/month

Includes: Unlimited* calling to landlines in nearly 60 countries as well as a subset of international mobile phone lines

U.S. & Canada Unlimited Texting Plan

$4.95/month

Includes: two-way texting to the U.S. and Canada

Worldwide Unlimited Texting Plan

$9.95/month

Includes: two-way texting worldwide

If you want to get a plan, make sure you download the latest version of Voxox…. And of course we still have tons of freebies, as usual!

*It is free to download Voxox and use most of its features

*You get a free phone number, dedicated to you and only you

*All inbound communications are free

*All in-network (Voxox to Voxox) communications are free

*And basically anything to do with social networking, IM, email, file sharing is all free

P.S. Don’t forget, Voxox is in beta, so we are constantly collecting feedback and bug reports from our users! Let us know if there are any issues you’re experiencing and what features you’d like to see in the future…

Happy Voxing!

Being Put on Hold Isn't So Bad ... When the Music is Rockin;

Posted by Tristan Barnum on Oct 29, 2009

Here’s the thing about Voxox. It has so many features that sometimes the little things, customizable pieces such as ringback tones, get overlooked. That’s why this week I’m giving some love to an oft-overlooked, but never maligned customizable feature: hold music.

That’s right, hold music, the very definition of distraction. Making sure the person you are putting on the back burner for a second isn’t thinking about having been put on said burner in the first place, I mean-- ever spent 45 seconds with pure silence? Feels like 45 minutes, but put a little hold music to it and Voila! it’s not so bad. There are exceptions to the rule of course, for example, if the hold music is talk radio, dentist commercials, or country music. With Voxox however, that can all change.

To customize your own hold music all you have to do is go to settings/hold music/upload a file. Keep in mind that you can customize this for each group of contacts, or even upload different tracks for individual contacts. Only takes a minute or two to set up, and a minute or two until you start putting your friends on hold just for fun (not very nice, but you should do it anyway). The people I’ll be putting on hold will be hearing the song “Still Waiting” from my favorite band The Greyboy Allstars -- what will yours be hearing?”

AT&T embraces VoIP - just a PR thing?

Posted by Tristan Barnum on Oct 13, 2009

Last week, AT&T embraced cellular VoIP, clearing the way for Internet-based voice services like Skype, Google Voice and Voxox to be used on the iPhone.

This looks to be on the heels of moves that Verizon has made with respect to Android phones that “opened" their network. AT&T had to emulate this in some way because of increasing regulatory pressure and their controversial positioning against Google Voice for blocking certain destinations with their calling service. AT&T is likely realizing that customer loyalty is more important than specific revenue streams, and there are two forces working in AT&T’s favor by being open:

A media-centric world: What marketers can do to reach today's consumer

Posted by Tristan Barnum on Oct 01, 2009

Here’s a contributed post from Bruce Silverman, a Voxox advisory board member …

My life used to be SO simple!

I started out in the advertising agency business back in the “Mad Men” era. We all smoked incessantly, consumed copious amounts of brown liquor at long lunches, viewed secretaries (all of whom were straight out of central casting) as toys, and effectively reached consumers for our clients just by making two or three phone calls!

Voxox 2: Better, Faster, Stronger

Posted by Tristan Barnum on Jul 14, 2009

At last! Voxox 2 launched this week and has hit the ground running. Last week Kevin, Michael and I traveled to New York and San Francisco to meet with press and demo this newest version of Voxox, which incorporates feedback from you, our users. Each press meeting was exciting and unique. We stopped by Fortune, which had an old billiards table as a conference table, reminiscent of the times when editors smoked their cigars while playing pool and contemplating their next cover, and INC, which had an amazing view of Ground Zero, a nostalgic reminder of the tragedy but also a realization that people do rebuild … and everywhere in between.
