On February 25-28, 2013, Barcelona will host the biggest and baddest mobile tech show in the world -- Mobile World Congress... and the Voxox team will be well represented. 

Our founders -- Bryan Hertz (CEO), Kevin Hertz (CTO), Robert Hertz (CIO) -- plus our EVP of Global Business Development, Pertti Johansson, along with others on our team, will all be at the event. They'll be demoing our latest and greatest apps in development; meeting with partners and potential partners; customers and potential customers; and basking in the glory of mobile innovation everywhere. We'll also have fun promos (think back to the Voxox alien at CES) and news to announce.

Big news -- we just announced that our company has raised $5.3 million to support growth for Voxox and Voxox In Business global initiatives, particularly in the mobile sphere. This funding is a result of the company's agreement with investment banking advisory firm, Pepperwood Partners, which is assisting us in this first institutional round. (Previously, the company was funded by angel and family office investors.)

New technology isn't born overnight. How do you think the iPad mini or the newly updated Voxox Call app came to be? By taking risks and trying something different! Product innovation stems from services, gadgets and systems we've already invented, and those iterations are building  blocks for exciting, new and revamped technologies. As we look ahead in 2013, it's difficult to say exactly which tech trends will be "new" this year, but we can take a stab at listing a few that will grow in popularity for both consumers and developers.

Hot off the presses! We've just announced an update to our free mobile app, Voxox Call for iPhone.  The new mobile app release provides iPhone users with the option to make high quality VoIP calls over 3G, 4G, LTE, and Wi-Fi networks, as well as an option to use the app’s original callback feature, Voxox Call Connect, when the data connection is poor or inconsistent to make calls worldwide. The new version of the app also comes with a variety of performance and usability enhancements related to quality of its telephony features, app design and user experience.

Can you believe it's already 2013? We made it through the Apocalypse and are here to usher in a whole new year of gadgets and gizmos. We can't be sure what techy toys the new year has to offer, but let's take a look back at some of 2012's highlights. We survived Y2K back in 2000, and now, 12 years later, our existence faces another doomsday catastrophe -- the end of the Mayan Calendar! According to some superstitious believers, tomorrow, December 21st, marks the end of the world as  predicted by the Mayans over 5,000 years ago. Despite lack of evidence for this prophecy, and as disproved this week by NASA, scenarios suggested for the end of the world include the arrival of the next solar maximum, an interaction between Earth and the black hole at the center of the galaxy, the alignment of the planets and Earth's collision with a planet called "Nibiru".

In fact, tech gifts have become so sought after that the Consumer Electronics Association estimates shoppers this holiday season will spend an average of $252 on consumer electronics, with 76% of gift-giving adults planning to give a gadget as a present.

2012 has been a rather important year for social media and the mobile industry. Not only have some of this year's milestone events like the Summer Olympics and the Presidential Election broken social networking records, but we have also seen a growing acceptance of social media by both businesses and individuals. Plus, as we have become more reliant on smartphones, mobile technologies have continued to evolve, reinventing the way we use portable tech -- the release of the iPhone 5 and cheap mobile calls via the Voxox Call iPhone app, to name a few!
