Infographic: Economics of Halloween Candy and Costume Sales

We all have a weakness for chocolate, but can you believe that the average American eats 24 lbs of it each year? To put it in perspective, 24 lbs of chocolate is the equivalent of nearly 238 Hershey bars, and to break it down even further, that's a little over half a Hershey bar per day.

It might seem like a lot since most of us don't consume Hershey bars on a regular basis, but that's where Halloween comes in for the statistical upset. On Halloween, portion control (if that's what you want to call it) takes a backseat and it's a full-on candy fest. Americans spend nearly $2 billion on Halloween candy, and about $1.2 billion of that is on chocolate, leaving the remaining couple hundred million for those mysterious peanut butter taffy things, the over-abundant Smarties, and the free floating candy corn at the bottom of your pillowcase.

But let's be honest, the real takeaway from this CandyNOMics infographic is that now we know which houses to hit up for the good candy (aka Reeses Peanut Butter Cups)...
