Instant mobile communications, like chat, VoIP and social media, are now at the fingertips of nearly every person on the planet and today's students have become addicted to staying in touch.

There’s an app for that. And that. And that. And that.

Sound familiar? As innovative and useful as most apps are, every smartphone user suffers from the new affliction of “app overload.” In a recent NY Times article, tech reporter Jenna Wortham talked about how she has 259 applications on her iPhone, of which she only uses about 16.

Remember how revolutionary texting was when it first arrived 20 years ago? Well, with technology, nothing is revolutionary for long.

Remember how in December of last year, we wrote about growing the team? Well, we've kept our word! Today we announced that our company has nearly doubled its workforce in the first quarter of 2013, expanding operations in San Diego, as well as internationally. We also announced that we've added Joe Lawrence of Qualcomm fame as our Chief Marketing Officer, and entrepreneur, Tristan Barnum, as VP of Marketing.

Google is pulling the plug on Gizmo5 on April 3rd despite its previous intentions to integrate Gizmo5's VoIP service / software with Google Voice's web-based phone forwarding service. At one point, all signs were pointing to Google releasing a desktop client for Google Voice via Gizmo5, but now, not only are the Gizmo5 users stranded, but it’s not clear what the plans are with releasing a desktop application for its Google Voice users. This seems like a pretty major disappointment to Gizmo5 users and anyone who’s been waiting for the ability to receive free incoming calls on their desktop.
