The selfie has gotten a bad rap. Blame it on the “sexters” or the Narcissists. Personally, I blame the hipsters, who hate everything. You could also blame it on the nuts who take selfies with a homeless person, then text it to their friends. Can someone please tell me what’s funny about that?

Growing up, I never understood the entertainment value of horror films. In fact, I was terrified of them. Every Saturday, my mom would drop off a group of us kids at the movies for a double feature, regardless of what was playing. (The MPAA ratings system was in its infancy then.)

Remember the meme, “There’s an app for that”? Whatever your need may be, these days there are likely many apps available to accomplish it. One obscure — but surprisingly useful — app is from Charmin. Called “Sit or Squat,” it’s a utility for finding public restrooms. Users rate the cleanliness of each pit stop. Great for road trips!

But let’s face it — your phone’s primary purpose is calling and texting. And if you use an app that gives you free calling and texting, you’ve hit upon a great way to save your hard-earned dollars and still get all the benefits of your smartphone.

However, he did recognize its importance and was considered by Vinton Cerf (the man often referred to as the "father of the Internet") to be the “first political leader to promote and support its development.

Yes, the government can listen to your phone conversations. They can record them too. But unless you’re saying something really interesting to some really interesting people, they probably aren’t. Call it “national security insurance.”

My sister (I may have mentioned her before) loves to communicate. As a teenager in the 1970s, she would talk on the phone for hours. Literally. She is a great communicator and has always been extremely social. She makes friends easily and is always the last one to leave the party.

So I was surprised at how difficult it was to get her to text. She just didn’t recognize the necessity. It wasn’t a cost issue. There are great apps, like Voxox, that let you text for free. Why would this extreme extrovert want to limit her communication options?
